Burgundy Urban Mediation Project

The BUMP project uses community mediation as a means of resolving conflicts reinforcing the social bonds for the prevention of violence and improving the living conditions in Little Burgundy. The mediators support the dialogue between individuals and the community at large, they listen and speak with the parties, inform them of their rights, refer them to appropriate resources and conduct mediation's as needed.

Services Offered at BUMP

Description of Services

BUMP is organized into four axis integrated into various tasks carried out by trained mediators.

  • Conflict Resolution— is a means to develop a method to resolve problems between two or more parties.
  • Civic Education— provides information about civic rights and responsibilities in the form of conversations, presentations and materials.
  • Referral—directs people to suitable services such as social and health services, community organizations etc.
  • Urban Safety and Sense of Security — intervenes to reduce specific social irritants such as difficulties between neighbors’, factors creating insecurity, violations of local laws, etc.

BUMP travaille sur quatre axes qui déterminent les tâches portées par ses médiateurs.

  • La résolution de conflit — la médiation est une façon de résoudre les problèmes entre deux parties.
  • L’éducation civique — donner de l’information sur les droits et les responsabilités sous forme de conversations et a l’aide de documents écrits.
  • La référence — diriger les gens vers les services appropriés, institutionnels et/ou communautaires.
  • La sécurité urbaine — être visible dans les espaces publics pour intervenir et réduire des irritants sociaux spécifiques, comme les difficultés entres voisins ainsi que tous les facteurs entraînant l’insécurité, violation des codes et de la loi.
